The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 33

By my calculations, it would only be a few more days.

In those days, Paloma ate nonstop.

She had developed a new habit.

While drinking my life force, she would suddenly lick my eyes, as if testing her luck to see if she could taste that special tear again.

It was so ridiculous I almost wanted to laugh.

The place I had chosen to rest was high in a very large tree.

The canopy hid us well.

It made me feel a little safer.

Paloma didn’t care in the slightest.

She didn’t care whether a place was dangerous.

She only cared whether she would go hungry.

Every time she drained my life force, she stuffed a bottle of potion into my mouth.

Over the last few days, I had drunk so many potions I almost felt full from them alone.

After drinking enough of them, I could even tell the slight differences between one potion and another.

Some were obviously from the same batch and tasted similar.

Some were especially pure, with recovery speeds so fast they were almost frightening.

Some needed me to guide the medicinal effect myself before they truly took hold.

At first, I still checked what she was giving me—what it was, what grade, whether it was safe.
