The General’s Ex-Wife Is A Colonel He Can’t Have Chapter 06
For the next few days, I stayed in the base hospital.
Beau had flowers and supplies sent over. The room’s internal line rang every day.
I always had the nurse answer, telling her to give the same message each time: “Condition stable. No visitors needed.”
On the day I was discharged, I handled the paperwork myself, on crutches.
I had just handed over the forms when an older woman shoved in front of me.
“I was here first. My daughter has an emergency. She needs her medication.”
I frowned.
“Ma’am, please wait your turn.”
She glared at me.
“Do you know who my daughter is with? General Beau Walker.”
“She has a heart condition. If her medicine is delayed, are you going to take responsibility?”
The words had barely left her mouth when Beau came striding down the hallway with Kinsley.
He guided me a few steps aside and lowered his voice.
“Kinsley’s mother has a heart condition. She can’t handle stress. Just let it go.”
“You’re a soldier. She’s a civilian.”
Kinsley stood there, supporting her mother, her eyes red-rimmed.
“Celine, I’m so sorry. My mom has always been sick. I was afraid she wouldn’t use the expensive prescriptions, so I told her Beau was my boyfriend.”
“Please don’t blame him. He just has a soft heart. He can’t stand to see an old woman suffer.”
I looked at the three of them.
So, if Kinsley’s mother felt unwell, Beau could abandon me in a hospital bed with a fractured leg and burns without a second thought.
The realization didn’t even make me angry.
I just nodded and turned to leave.
I had only taken two steps when I heard Kinsley speak softly behind me.
“Beau, is Celine angry? Is she going to do what she did last time…?”
“I really don’t want this to affect your career.”
Beau’s voice was quiet, but I heard it clearly.
“Don’t worry about it. She grew up without a family. She doesn’t know what this kind of thing feels like.”
My hand tightened on my crutch.
My knuckles went white.
I kept walking, one step at a time.
Beau quickly came after me.
“Celine, I’ll drive you back to your quarters.”
I didn’t look back. I just walked faster.
