The General’s Ex-Wife Is A Colonel He Can’t Have Chapter 08

As he spoke, he pulled my medical summary from his pocket.

Kinsley’s mother skimmed it, then frowned in disgust.

“So she’s crazy. No wonder she’s all alone. No one wants her.”

Beau helped her away. From beginning to end, he never looked back at me.

I sat there on the floor, suddenly too empty to even cry.

The head nurse helped me back to a treatment room and redressed my wounds.

Her movements were gentle.

“Major Wells, would you like to notify the MPs?”

I shook my head.

“No.”

“Just process my discharge.”

After I returned to my quarters, I started packing.

My phone buzzed.

Kinsley had posted a new photo to Instagram.

In it, she was wearing Beau’s flight jacket, leaning against his chest.

The caption was a single sentence.

“I found you in the fire, and it made everything worth it.”

I calmly swiped past it and unfollowed her.

Downstairs, the car the base had sent for me was already waiting.

I got into the back seat and gave the destination.

“The airfield.”

As the car pulled through the gates of the housing area, a black military SUV was coming the other way.

The two vehicles passed each other.

The back window of the SUV was halfway down. I saw Beau turned toward the person beside him, talking.

Kinsley was leaning on his shoulder, smiling.

The next second, our cars drove off in opposite directions.

I looked in the rearview mirror.

The base gate shrank until it was just a blurry dot in the distance.
