The Girl He Sold Returned As The King’s Mate Chapter 07
“Your mother made those.”
“Only she would hide the last stitch inside the stem.”
He looked up at me, tears streaming down his face.
“Evelyn, I looked for you.”
“I swear I did.”
“Until Adrian brought back her shoe,” I finished for him.
Daniel couldn’t speak.
The old belongings only proved a connection to the missing girl. To confirm my identity now, we needed something more concrete.
The royal medical wing had already taken my samples under independent witness and compared them to Daniel’s, as well as to my mother’s samples preserved in Riverbend’s medical archives.
The chief Healer announced the results: the biological relationship was confirmed.
A woman from Riverbend who had been my nanny also came to the hearing.
She didn’t try to identify me by my face. Instead, she asked me three questions about things that had never appeared in any public record.
Where had Mother hidden the key to her private safe before she died?
Which Healer had I been terrified of after I cut my finger at age six?
And what was buried behind the west wall of the old garden?
I answered every one.
The last answer was a dead white dove that she and I had secretly buried together.
Daniel had never known.
