The Mafia Don’s Graveyard Bride Chapter 04
I filled the bathtub with warm water and slowly lowered myself in.
I picked up my phone and sent a message to the funeral services company:
Please come at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning to handle my arrangements.
The instant the message went through, a push notification popped up on screen—a tabloid controlled by the family:
[Moretti family to set off three consecutive nights of fireworks at the Long Island estate, in blessing for the unborn child.]
The vast master bedroom was deathly silent. Only the glow of the phone screen illuminated my calm face.
I blocked every contact in my phone, then tossed it aside.
“Baby, Daddy has a new little one now.”
“He’ll have a complete family from now on. Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle will all be fine too.”
“Now… Mommy can finally come be with you.”
My gaze fell to the surface of the water. In my hand, I held the razor blade.
The clear water rose around me. Blood began to bloom outward in slow, spreading tendrils…
Meanwhile, at the Moretti family’s private medical center.
Adrian felt a sudden, sharp pain lance through his chest. An inexplicable wave of panic seized him.
He reached instinctively for his phone, about to call me.
But the doctor’s voice cut through: “Mr. Moretti, the fetus is not developing well. There is a significant risk of miscarriage.”
His finger, poised to dial, froze. His eyes darkened.
“Deploy every resource. Spare nothing. Save this child.”
From the hospital bed, Gia Romano spoke weakly, her face pale:
“Adrian, I’m so scared. If you could stay with me, I’m sure the baby would be safer.”
Adrian’s gaze dropped to her swollen abdomen. He hesitated a moment, then set down his phone and sent me a message:
[I won’t be back at the estate for the next few days. In three days, remember to go with Ethan to the meeting. Don’t wander off.]
After sending it, he sat at Gia’s bedside and spoke in a low, steady voice:
“Focus on the baby. I’ll stay with you.”
He stayed for three days.
Until Margaret Shaw’s call came in, her voice frantic:
“Adrian, is Willa with you? She was supposed to go with Ethan to the meeting today, but I can’t reach her phone at all!”
Adrian’s brow furrowed. He opened the chat immediately and saw that his message from three days ago had been rejected—delivery failed.
His face went dark. He dialed from his assistant’s phone. The moment it connected, his voice was ice-cold and cutting:
“Willa, you blocked me? Behaved yourself for a few days and now you’re throwing tantrums again?”
“If you keep this up, I’ll have the baby’s grave moved. I’ll make sure you never—”
Before he could finish, an unfamiliar male voice came through the other end.
“Hello. The owner of this phone passed away and was buried three days ago. May I ask who’s calling?”
