The Man I Couldn’t Escape Chapter 02
Lorelei stared at the deep red exclamation mark beside the “okay” she’d sent, her knuckles turning faintly white.
Thirty more days, and she’d be able to leave this place, gone from Rayden’s words.
Over the next week, a nurse came regularly to change her bandages.
Having barely slept in days, Lorelei drifted off into a heavy sleep.
But she hadn’t been asleep long when her bedroom door was suddenly kicked open.
Guards grabbed her by both arms and dragged her downstairs.
“You’re Lorelei Payne?” Natasha Serrano signaled for the guards to let go and walked toward her, her stiletto heels clicking against the floor.
When Lorelei didn’t answer, she curled her red lips and let out a soft laugh.
She crooked a finger and took the file a bodyguard handed her.
A lot of photos scattered at Lorelei’s feet in an instant.
High-definition close-ups of her at the peak of pleasure, her dazed expression when she was lost in the moment, the way she’d looked when she was begging for mercy…
“The person by the floor-to-ceiling window—isn’t that you?
“The one on the bathroom counter—that’s not you either?
“The one in the swimming pool—still not you?”
Lorelei froze, her spine going rigid instantly.
Why did these things exist?
She crouched down on instinct, quickly and frantically gathering the photos into a pile.
“Don’t rush to pick those up. I’ve got plenty more.”
Natasha flicked her wrist, and a stack of photos slapped hard against Lorelei’s face.
“You know how to seduce a man, but now you’re playing innocent?
“Ten boxes of condoms. Looks like Rayden can’t keep up with you, huh?”
Lorelei’s hands stopped moving.
Natasha looked down at her with a cold smile, pulled a camera out of her bag, shoving it in Lorelei’s face to take pictures. “What? You wanna explain? Go ahead. I’m listening.”
Lorelei shot her hand up and knocked the camera out of Natasha’s grip.
She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Her chest heaved, every breath aching.
Three years. Rayden had been secretly recording their intimate videos for three years.
He even exploited their most intimate moments, turning her into nothing but a tool for his “revenge”.
She didn’t understand how he could act so well.
Natasha watched Lorelei, the smile slowly fading from her lips.
She nodded and glanced at the bodyguards. “Bring me the lighter.”
“What are you doing?” Lorelei tried to lunge forward.
But a bodyguard seized her arm and yanked her back.
“I’m just worried your child might get lonely underground. She misses you.
“Show her how much fun her mom’s having without her. How wild she’s living.”
Lorelei’s mind went blank, her body swaying uncontrollably.
A year ago, she’d been in her first trimester, and Rayden had been drunk.
No matter how she’d begged, he wouldn’t listen.
“Don’t leave me. Why are you leaving me? Don’t go…”
The bed shook violently as he thrust into her once more.
Because of that encounter, the baby was lost in the end.
The funny thing was … she’d always believed he meant her.
Flames licked upward, swallowing the photos in an instant.
Lorelei snapped back, her voice raw and desperate.
“Let go of me! Whatever she’s paying you, I’ll triple it!”
The bodyguard’s expression didn’t change. He still didn’t let go.
“Fivefold? How about tenfold?”
The bodyguards still didn’t release her.
“What’s wrong with you two? Wouldn’t you listen to Mrs. Weber?” Natasha stood there, a half-smile on her face.
“We only take orders from Mr. Weber,” the bodyguard said respectfully. “Our mission is the same as it was three years ago—you come first.”
A dull ache spread from her heart, and Lorelei’s blood ran cold.
As she struggled, the fire blazed higher and higher.
There had been so many photos, but they all burned away in less than ten minutes. The bodyguards finally let go.
Natasha’s heel stepped on the edge of the fire basin.
With a kick, ashes scattered across the floor.
A few flecks drifted up and landed on Lorelei’s face.
Without looking at her again, Natasha let out a cold sneer and turned away. “Slut.”
Just as they reached the doorway, Lorelei lifted her head and spoke suddenly, “Stop.”
“What? You still wanna—”
Before she could finish, a slap landed hard across Natasha’s face.
Lorelei hurled the camera at her, eyes red, voice hoarse.
“Take your stuff and get out.”
The front door slammed shut behind them.
