The Price Of His Mistake Chapter 11
In the underground garage, Andrew stumbled toward his car. Dead. Soulless.
Emily, too desperate to give up, chased after him. She grabbed the handle of his car door and held on.
“Andrew, Catherine doesn’t want you anymore! I’m all you have left!” Her voice was shrill.
Andrew whipped around and threw her off. His backhand caught her across the face.
The slap cracked through the concrete silence.
“What the hell are you? You think you can compare to Catherine?” His voice shattered. “You schemed and manipulated me every single day. You think she’d be divorcing me if it weren’t for you? You destroyed me. Now get the hell out of my sight!”
Emily clutched her face. Seeing that Andrew had turned on her completely, her own mask dropped.
She spat on the ground. She jabbed a finger at his face.
“Don’t you stand there playing the heartbroken husband. If you really loved her, you think a few sweet words from me would’ve gotten you into my bed?”
“You knew her family was untouchable. But you still crossed her for me. You’re just stupid. And greedy.”
“Now you’re nothing. And I need to distance myself from you fast before your mess drags me down too.”
She turned and fled like he was a plague.
The empty garage swallowed the sound of her footsteps.
Andrew was alone.
He sagged against the car door. He slid down until he was sitting on the cold concrete. His sobs bounced off the cement walls. Hollow. Hopeless.
Andrew didn’t know how he got the car home.
He blew through two red lights. He nearly rear-ended someone. He swerved his way to the brownstone on the Upper East Side.
The front door was wide open. Chaos.
Movers were hauling out the sofa. The coffee table.
Andrew rushed forward. “What are you doing? Who told you to take my furniture?”
Edward’s personal assistant walked up. Clipboard in hand. Expression deadpan.
“Mr. Shaw, please stay calm. This property was purchased under the fund’s name.”
“The fund now belongs to the Blackwood family. The property is being reclaimed by law.”
“Your personal items have been boxed up and left with the doorman. You need to leave immediately. If you obstruct this process, we will call the police.”
