The Stand-In Girl He Couldn’t Keep Chapter 10

The Stand-In Girl He Couldn’t Keep Chapter 10

Dad passed away early, and it was Mom who raised me all on her own.

The greatest wish I’d ever had in this life was simply for Mom to live a little longer, to stay by my side a little longer.

But Sophia had indirectly driven her to death.

The grief and rage of losing Mom finally shattered the last thread of restraint inside me.

Hiding a dagger on me, I hunted Sophia down.

She turned pale with terror and scrambled to run, but I still managed to slash her across the forearm.

Clutching her bleeding arm, she glared at me through tears. “How dare you hurt me? Steve will never let you get away with this!”

I stared at her with pure hatred and let out a cold laugh. “I don’t care. I’ll kill you first.”

But when I struck again, Steven grabbed the blade with his bare hand.

Blood instantly poured from his palm, yet he didn’t even flinch. “Ellie, calm down!”

I completely lost control and screamed at him. “She killed my mom! How am I supposed to calm down?!”

His expression froze. Then he turned toward Sophia in disbelief. “What did you do this time?”

Sophia lifted her chin defiantly. “I just told that old hag the truth. I told her Eleanor’s nothing but a whore who sells her body for money and that she should teach her shameless daughter some self-respect.

“If she killed herself, maybe it’s because she was too humiliated by having such a disgusting daughter to keep living.

“I think Eleanor should die, too. She ought to go to hell and apologize to her mother…”

Before she could finish, Steven slapped her hard across the face.

Sophia crashed to the floor, completely stunned. Her eyes reddened instantly as she muttered in disbelief, “You hit me? Ever since I was little, you’ve never laid a hand on me. And now you’re hitting me because of Eleanor?”

Tears spilled from her eyes as she looked up at him. “You fell in love with Eleanor, didn’t you?”

“I knew it. You’ve been sleeping with her for three years. There’s no way you could feel absolutely nothing for her…”

She glared at me viciously. “You whore. You seduced Steven with your skills in bed. You’re disgusting! Shameless!”

“I knew it. You’ve been sleeping with her for three years. There’s no way you could feel absolutely nothing for her…”

She glared at me viciously. “You whore. You seduced Steven with your skills in bed. You’re disgusting! Shameless!”

“Shut up!” Steven’s temples throbbed violently, veins standing out across his forehead as he barked at her coldly, “Sophia, how did you become like this?

“How can you casually throw around such filthy, degrading words toward another woman?

“How can you completely ignore your conscience, torment a terminally ill old woman with such vicious insults, and still feel no remorse even after indirectly causing her death?”

Disappointment filled his eyes. For the first time, he finally recognized his own mistake. “I was wrong. I always thought you were so pitiful for losing your parents at such a young age, so I spoiled you.

“It was my endless indulgence that made you so arrogant, that made you think you could hurt people without consequences.”

At last, he decided to take back the privileges he had always given her. “But from today onward, you won’t have any special treatment from me anymore.

“And stop expecting me to clean up your messes. From now on, if you make mistakes, you’ll bear the consequences yourself.”
