The Sweet-Voiced Trueborn From The Black Forest Chapter 06

My parents’ faces showed shock and embarrassment.

Mr. Cragward ignored it. “You should know I’ve been preparing this film for years.”

“The reason I haven’t started shooting is that I’m waiting for the one I’ve been dreaming of.”

Under Vivian’s tearful gaze, Father gritted his teeth and asked.

“Mr. Cragward, may I ask which starlet it is?”

Mr. Cragward shook his head, a look of longing in his eyes.

“She’s not in the industry. She’s just a girl, somewhere out there.”

“But the moment I saw her, I knew she was my leading lady. It had to be her.”

He turned on his phone screen.

A photo, grainy and looking a few years old, was set as his wallpaper.

“If you just see her picture, you’ll understand what I mean.”

My parents took the phone, and just one look made them gasp.

Jesus. Someone actually looks like this?”

“No wonder you, a renowned filmmaker who’s seen all sorts of beauties, can’t forget her.”

Even as Vivian pouted and wheedled desperately,

My parents couldn’t bring themselves to say another word for her.

Because without comparison, there was no harm.

Before seeing the photo, my parents might have been ninety percent sure of their chances with Vivian and their connections.

But after seeing this girl, they felt a rare sense of inadequacy.

They simply couldn’t push any further, no matter how thick-skinned.

Vivian bit her lip, glaring at the image.

“It’s obviously an edited photo, all filtered.”

“If someone looked like that in real life, they would have been famous already. How could they be an unknown?”

“Mr. Cragward, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment!”

But Mr. Cragward stared at his wallpaper, enraptured. “No, this photo is real. The original.”

“It was taken by a photographer friend of mine while he was out shooting. No editing whatsoever.”

“When I first saw it, I was stunned. I doubted its authenticity, too.”

“Then I saw the original file in my friend’s camera. I had to admit the truth.”

“This girl is a born idol and actress. She’s the only one for my movie.”

Vivian’s smile thinned. Her fingers curled around the edge of her sleeve.

“Mr. Cragward, I think you’re being too idealistic.”

“Even if the photo is real, it’s been four or five years. She would have changed.”

“Acne, weight gain, tanning. Who knows?”

“When you find her and see she doesn’t match the photo, you’ll regret wasting so much time on her.”

Mr. Cragward’s face darkened.

But he tempered his anger, out of respect for my parents.

“I don’t know if I’ll regret it when I meet her.”

“I only know that if I settle for someone else without finding her, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, for ruining what could have been a perfect film.”

“I’d be letting down my work, and all the fans eagerly awaiting its adaptation!”

With that, Mr. Cragward stormed out.

My parents and Vivian turned on me, their eyes sharp with frustration.
