The Sweet-Voiced Trueborn From The Black Forest Chapter 08
The Resident Director was thrilled for me. “Lyra, which one do you want to sign with?”
I shook my head. “I’m not interested.”
The Resident Director gave an awkward laugh.
“Lyra, could you go out there for my sake?”
“The principal just called me personally. If you don’t go, I won’t hear the end of it.”
I had no choice. In my slippers and pajamas, I went out to handle it.
When I showed up, bare-faced and in my sleepwear,
The doors of those dozens of vans burst open and people swarmed out.
“Oh my god, she’s even more stunning in person!”
“Miss Voss, you were born for this. Sign with us, and we’ll make you a star!”
Voices crashed over me from every direction. I took a step back—and then a familiar face pushed through the crowd.
“Miss Voss, I’m from Howell Entertainment.”
“If you say yes, I’ll offer you the highest-tier contract.”
Kael was finally looking at me properly, but I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
“I’m a freshman. I worked hard to get into Moren. What would I go to your company for?”
Kael was stunned, and his assistant interjected.
“Miss Voss had one of the highest SAT scores in the country this year.”
Everyone’s eyes grew brighter.
“Looks, voice, intelligence, education—she’s got it all.”
“Signing her would be like finding a goldmine!”
Just as they were all about to surge forward,
Mr. Cragward’s voice boomed out: “Hold on. Let her decide.”
Seeing this heavyweight arrive, everyone stepped back.
Mr. Cragward walked up to me, visibly moved. “I’ve been looking for you for years. My leading lady.”
“Don’t worry if you want to focus on your studies. I won’t push.”
“I’ve already waited five years. I can wait four more.”
“To me, a film is art. If I’m going to do it, it has to be the best.”
“I can wait for you to graduate. Wait for you to decide. I’ll be here whenever you’re ready.”
Seeing the crowd, I knew I had to pick someone to get back to my dorm.
So, after hearing him out, I met his sincerity.
“I could film during winter and summer breaks?”
Earlier, at home, Mr. Cragward had faced down my parents and Vivian alone.
I had liked him then—he seemed principled, focused, and had integrity.
And Mr. Cragward didn’t disappoint. His eyes lit up and he immediately agreed.
“Deal! Your schedule is the schedule!”
“Without you, this movie isn’t happening anyway!”
With my agreement with Mr. Cragward in place,
Everyone else left, disappointed.
I slept soundly.
At dawn, I put my disguise back on and went to breakfast alone.
Campus was filled with people wandering around, phones out, livestreaming, apparently looking for something.
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out.
“Runt, come here.”
Seeing my mother beckoning me, I froze.
Did they know everything?
As I shuffled over,
Mother simply held up her phone. “You go to Moren. Have you ever seen this girl?”
I pressed my lips together. I didn’t want to tell them it was me, but I also didn’t want to lie.
Seeing my hesitation, Vivian, clinging to her mother’s arm, laughed. “Mom, don’t make things hard for Runt.”
“Beautiful people only hang out with beautiful people. Someone like Runt wouldn’t even get close to a girl that stunning.”
