The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 15
He had always thought that by moving to my city, he had ended our long-distance relationship.
Only at that moment did he finally see that for seven years, I had been the one pushing the relationship forward all along.
That night, he called everyone from the poll back to the Bellini family restaurant.
This time, the adviser and several capos were there, too.
Leo spoke first.
“Mireille still hasn’t cooled off? We can just go apologize, can’t we?”
Hadrian threw the magazine down on the table.
“Who suggested the vote in the first place?”
No one answered.
Emily spoke up quietly. “You did. You said you wanted her to see what the inner circle really thought.”
“And who kept saying she was too controlling?”
“That was you, too,” she said, lowering her head.
“Every time you refused to drink, or cover someone’s bill, or join those activities that would’ve pissed off the boss, you said Mireille wouldn’t allow it.”
“Every time, you put her out front and made us think she was interfering in the underboss’s decisions.”
The table went utterly silent.
Hadrian’s face changed, bit by bit.
So those seven votes against me hadn’t come out of nowhere.
He had used his power, again and again, to turn me into the obstacle standing in his inner circle’s way.
He didn’t want to refuse his subordinates and friends himself, so he let them resent a woman who had not even been granted Family protection.
Leo tried to smooth things over.
“Hadrian, we really never meant to hurt her.”
Hadrian looked up at him.
