The Vicious Vixen: Mother To The Panther Lord’s Pups Chapter 12
The Northern Territory
We left Nightfall Hall on a Tuesday.
The convoy waited at the front gate. Four black SUVs were packed and ready.
We were heading north. New territory. Forest and mountain along the northern border, cleared by Darian during the raider war. No old house rules. No old Lady breathing down my neck.
Before we left, I had one last thing to do.
Octavia was in the east wing sitting room. She sat in her usual chair with her cane across her knees. She watched me come in without a word.
I pulled the Lady’s ring from my pocket, the one tied to this house and its old rules.
The black steel caught the light one last time.
I set it on the table in front of her.
“Keep it,” I said. “Or leave it in the oath room. I don’t care.”
Octavia looked at the ring. Then at me.
“You’re leaving.”
“We’re leaving. All four of us.”
Her mouth tightened. For a second, she looked sorry.
“I was hard on you,” she said.
“Yes.”
“Isolde poisoned this house long before you arrived. I should have seen it sooner.”
“Yes.”
She let out a slow breath. “The pups. Will they be alright?”
I looked at her and remembered the oath room lectures, the kneeling orders, and every rule she had used against me.
She was an old Lady who had lost control of her house.
“They’ll be better than alright,” I said.
She nodded once. Then she reached for the ring, closed her fist around it, and turned her face to the window.
I left without looking back.
Outside, the SUV was running. Darian leaned against the door in a black coat, phone to his ear. He hung up when he saw me.
“Done?”
“Done.”
He opened the door for me. For the first time.
Cassian and Liora were already inside.
Cassian had a book open on his lap. Something about the great house wars.
Liora was drawing in a small notebook, focused hard on the page.
I slid in beside them.
Liora dropped her pencil and crawled into my lap.
“Mom, will there be a river?”
“There’ll be a river, a waterfall, and enough forest to run for days.”
“Can I shift and run?”
“Every morning if you want.”
Cassian did not look up from his book, but the corner of his mouth lifted.
The convoy pulled away from the estate. I watched the iron gates shrink behind us.
The stone walls. The dead garden. The windows I had passed for three months.
Gone.
Darian took my hand on the seat between us. His grip was warm and steady.
“No more old house,” he said.
We drove north. Cassian and Liora argued over who would pick the first bedroom.
I leaned back and closed my eyes.
Three months ago, my family had sold me to a stranger.
They expected me to break. To fail. To crawl back and beg.
Instead, I took a dead Lady’s place and made it mine.
I raised her pups until no one could scare them again. I took control of a house that wanted me gone.
And I became the mate of the most dangerous lord in the Northeast.
Not with a white dress and sweet promises, but by standing my ground when every shifter expected me to bow.
Liora looked up from my lap. “Mom, when we get there, can we get a dog?”
Cassian looked up from his book. “We’re panthers.”
“So? Panthers can have dogs.”
“That’s weird.”
“Mom. Tell him it’s not weird.”
“We’ll get two dogs,” I said.
“Can I name them?”
“You can name everything.”
Darian squeezed my hand. He did not say anything.
I did not come into this house to be a quiet Lady. I did not come to obey, bow, or disappear.
I came to change everything.
And from that day on, no shifter ever called House Nightfall weak again.
The End
