The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 35

She looked at me first, then at Tucker.

“Didn’t you say she’d definitely go soft?”

Tucker’s face went ugly.

“Shut up.”

“I won’t.”

She smiled, still wearing that old look, as if everything in the world was entertaining.

“You broke your hands, stayed with me in the institution, and jumped off a building with me. And what did it get you? She won’t even come back to America.”

Tucker’s breathing grew faster.

“You dragged me off that building.”

“You could’ve chosen not to stop those people. Don’t pretend to be a good person now.”

“If you hadn’t drugged them—”

The two of them started fighting again in front of all the Family representatives.

They argued from Sierra’s car accident to my wedding.

From the kidnapping in Geneva to Tucker arranging for men to tear up Sloane’s wedding dress and remove her signet ring.

What they were fighting over wasn’t who was innocent.

It was who should bear more of the blame.

In the end, Tucker was the first to crack.

“You ruined everything!” he shouted at Sloane.

“If you hadn’t come back, I would have married Isolde long ago!”

Sloane looked as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world.

“Did I make you send those transfers?”

“Did I make you cut her microphone?”

“When people were touching her, you were smiling. Tucker, what’s the difference between us?”

Tucker stood there with his mouth open as the color drained from his face.

I turned on my microphone.

They both fell silent.

“Of course there’s a difference.”

Sloane arched a brow. Tucker looked as if he had grabbed hold of his very last shred of hope.

I looked at him.

“Sloane never pretended to be a good person.”

“But you indulged her while she hurt other people, and still expected me to be grateful for your protection.”

“You used the power of an heir to silence everyone else, then treated the occasional act of protection as if it were love.”

“And in the end, when you hurt her, it wasn’t for me, either. You just couldn’t accept that I had finally seen you for who you are.”

Tucker’s lips moved.

“I really did love you.”

“Maybe.”

I didn’t deny it.

“But your love needed me to keep getting hurt, so it could prove itself.”

“I don’t need it anymore.”

At last, his tears fell.
