The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 23

“Hudson Crest just issued a special notice to the board.”

Sebastian sat down across from me and pushed another document over.

Three years ago, one of the grounds on which the board had approved Quinn Industries’ relocation was Sebastian’s critical condition and the stabilizing effect of our marriage.

But now, not only had he survived—his health was steadily improving.

So the chairman had turned around and accused the Quinn family of deliberately concealing Sebastian’s true condition to obtain approval through false pretenses.

If the accusation stood, the resolution passed three years ago could be reopened.

The chairman’s first demand was that Sebastian be suspended pending investigation, while Hudson Crest sent its own people to take over the Miami office.

I let out a cold laugh.

“He was the one who wanted you dead. Now that you’ve lived, somehow that’s become your fault.”

Sebastian said nothing, only raised a hand to his chest. He had recovered well, but whenever he was overtired, his face still went pale.

I poured him a cup of warm water. Only after his breathing steadied did I ask, “Can this message prove he was behind it?”

“It only proves the contractor sent news of my condition directly to his office. The device was encrypted equipment issued by Hudson Crest, and the complete records are controlled by them.”

Which meant the most important evidence was still in their hands.

I lowered my eyes.

Three years ago, we had deliberately let that contractor see Sebastian’s fluctuating vital signs so we could leave New York safely.
