The Wife He Forgot Was The One He Loved Most Chapter 04

Chloe’s wedding was in a glass conservatory just outside the city—warm, romantic, everything green.

I’d barely arrived when she slipped out from behind the sign-in table and gave my lower back a quick pinch.

“What have you been eating? Your waist is thicker.”

I froze. Thicker?

I’d only noticed my face was a bit fuller. I hadn’t thought further than that.

“When was your last period?”

My mind went completely blank.

“…You know I’m always irregular.”

Chloe frowned and flicked my forehead.

“You can’t just be muddle-headed about this. Listen to me, get it checked when you have time. If it turns out—”

She didn’t finish. Her eyes lit up and she waved past me. “Sean’s here!”

I turned around.

A man in a pale-blue button-down, camera in one hand.

He stopped in front of me, and up close was even better-looking than his pictures.

“Chloe said that series you did on light and shadow in the old streets had a really strong sense of atmosphere,” he said, smiling. “I looked through your Instagram. Your composition is bold. Your color palette—wild, in a good way.”

We found a couple of seats and sat down to talk.

A few sentences in—yeah, he was all right.

We were in the middle of comparing the focus rings on an old lens when the room hushed by the entrance.

I looked up.

Ethan and Vivienne had walked in. The two of them together looked like they’d been peeled off the cover of a magazine.

My eyes locked on the two emerald earrings hanging from her earlobes.

Something dull and heavy hit me square in the chest.

Late last year, those earrings had been sketched by Ethan’s own hand.

Now, they were on Vivienne’s ears.

My throat closed. My ears rang.

My stomach knotted, sharp and sudden. My body went boneless, tilting to one side.

The last thing I saw before I lost consciousness was Ethan running toward me.

“Annie!”
