Their Favoritism Resulted In A Cruel Outcome Chapter 19

Through the glass, Daniel asked, “Why did you do that to her?”

Connor looked down at the album.

“I didn’t think she would die.”

“That’s not what I’m asking.”

Daniel sounded exhausted.

“I’m asking why, when she had done absolutely nothing wrong, you still forced her to give way.”

Connor didn’t answer for a long time.

“Because Blair would have killed herself.”

“And Willa?” Daniel pressed.

“Did you think that because she was stable, because she was independent, because she loved you, that no matter what you did, she would never leave?”

Connor’s fingers suddenly clenched, denting the album cover.

Daniel had his answer.

“Connor, you weren’t just deceived by Blair.”

“You chose the person who was easiest to sacrifice.”

“The more she trusted you, the more willing you were to hurt her.”

The color drained from Connor’s face.

As Daniel turned to leave, Connor suddenly picked up the phone.

“Dad.”

“After I die, can my ashes be buried beside Willa’s?”

Daniel stopped but didn’t turn back.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“She wore her wedding dress and waited for you all day. You never went.”

“After her death, you don’t get to write yourself into the role of her husband.”

“Her headstone bears only one name: Willa Worthington.”

“She is not the Winthrops’ daughter-in-law.”

“And she is certainly not your wife.”

Connor gripped the receiver.

“But we were engaged.”

“You personally prepared the papers forcing her to end that engagement.”

“She never signed them. Not even at the end.”

“She didn’t sign them. That doesn’t mean she forgave you.”

“The moment you sent her to that detention center, you had already betrayed her.”

Daniel left.

Connor slowly slid down the wall and sat on the floor.

That day, for the first time, he cried out loud in front of the prison guards.

He had always believed that because I never signed the papers, it meant I still wanted to marry him.

The truth was, I never signed them because the fire came too fast.

Before I lost consciousness, I had only one thought.

If there was another life after this one, I never wanted to see him again.
