They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 11

When I left the office that evening, Evan was still there, blocking the entrance. The Flat White in his hand had long since gone cold.

“I’ve thought it through,” he said, stepping toward me. “I’ll make Ava and Rachel apologize to you. Formally. From now on, you’ll come first at every family event, and I’ll draw a hard line with Rachel. If you come home, we can start over.”

I stopped.

“If I hadn’t gotten the investment, if I didn’t have this office, if I hadn’t been able to move out—what then?”

Evan froze.

“If I were still sitting in that empty house waiting for you, would you think you needed to change?”

The hallway fell silent.

Evan opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Just then, the elevator doors opened. Cameron stepped out, holding a file.

“Claire, the client’s here.”

Evan immediately moved to block our path, his voice regaining its old authority. “She’s busy today. We need to deal with our family issues.”

Cameron didn’t argue. He just looked at me.

“Do you want me to ask security to have him removed?”

“No.”

A flicker of hope lit Evan’s eyes, but I had already turned to Cameron.

“Let’s go. The client’s waiting.”

I walked right past Evan. The unspoken “us” in my words was deafening. As he registered it, the color drained from his face.
