They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 20

Evan sold the Decatur house and moved into a sterile apartment downtown.

He started subscribing to business magazines, saving every article that mentioned my company. He flew to Atlanta often, standing across the street from my office building and watching employees come and go, but he never tried to approach me again.

Once, he sent flowers anonymously.

As per my instructions, the front desk sent them back. After that, he never sent flowers again.

Another time, he booked a flight to Atlanta and stood at the gate until the final boarding call ended. In the end, he didn’t get on the plane.

He took a screenshot of the expired digital boarding pass and saved it in a folder on his phone named *Claire*.

There were already dozens of similar screenshots in it.

He never wrote anything.

That spring, I flew to New York to meet a client and spotted him across the street.

Evan had lost a lot of weight. His suit hung loosely on his frame, and the wedding ring was gone from his left hand.

When he saw me, he took two instinctive steps forward, then stopped himself.

“Claire. Long time no see.”

“Long time no see.”

We were polite, like old classmates who hadn’t seen each other in years.

He looked at me, hesitated, then asked, “Would you like to get a coffee?”

“Sorry, I’m on my way to a client meeting.”

“Just ten minutes.”

“I don’t have ten minutes.”

His lips moved, but he just nodded.

“Then… next time.”

I didn’t answer.

The light changed, and I crossed the street with the crowd. He stayed where he was, and he didn’t follow.
