Tit For Tat Chapter 07
“Adrian, do you know why Sloane dared to hand you that page in the first place?”
He said nothing.
“Because you’ve always made her feel like you could surrender my boundaries on my behalf.”
“I said I didn’t want her managing my private album. You gave her administrator access anyway.”
“She dared you to send the page to all the guests. You wanted to prove you weren’t controlled by your fiancée, so you hit send.”
“When I walked in, you didn’t shut down the projection first. You didn’t take away the phone she was using to record me.”
“You took away her drink, because you were worried about her stomach.”
No one in the conference room made a sound.
Adrian’s voice turned rough.
“Do you really have to reduce three years of us to this?”
“I’m not the one making it ugly.”
“The backend record is.”
I hung up.
The project finance director waited a few seconds before sliding a list toward me.
“Ms. Hart, three institutions have expressed interest.”
“The one with the best terms is Bennett Global.”
The room went quiet for a beat.
Noah Bennett.
The man who had broken off our engagement three years ago.
The rumor was he’d gone to Vancouver to oversee his family’s international real estate business and had only returned to the East Coast last year.
Everyone knew our history. And everyone knew how ugly things had gotten between Adrian and the Bennetts because of me.
The finance director asked carefully, “Should we exclude them?”
I opened Bennett Global’s letter of intent.
The interest rate, term, and exit mechanism were all laid out clearly.
“No.”
“Look at the terms, nothing else.”
“We meet with whoever is the best fit.”
