Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 19

At that instant, Jaylen only felt as if his heart were being torn apart.

Seraphina was right. Deep down, he had never thought very highly of Cyenne.

He had always been heaven’s favored son—highly intelligent and exceptionally capable. At three, he began learning seven languages. At ten, he began handling some of the Canyer Group’s smaller businesses. His starting point had always been far above that of ordinary people. Whatever book he read, he never forgot it after one glance. Whatever he studied, he mastered it with ease.

Cyenne, by contrast, was like an idiot who could not learn anything.

When Jaylen was little, he had actually disliked having Cyenne as his younger sister. Back then, Cyenne Demaillet was still called Cyenne Canyer. She was simply too slow—she did not learn to count from one to ten until she was three, could not recite classical poems, and could not speak Spanish or French. More than once, Jaylen had wondered whether this little idiot was really his biological sister.

Although he looked down on her in his heart, she was still his sister after all, and Cyenne had clung to him since childhood. Little by little, Jaylen grew used to having such a little fool by his side.

Little fool Cyenne’s world was very simple. It held only good food and Jay.

Jaylen had long been used to the complexity of the human heart. All of a sudden, he felt that his foolish little sister was the most priceless treasure in the world.

But heaven liked to toy with people. Just when Jaylen had fully accepted this foolish little sister of his, Francesca suddenly appeared with a paternity test.

It turned out that the little fool who could do nothing really was not his sister.

“Waaah, Jay, what do I do? I’m not your real sister.” Cyenne cried so pitifully that her helpless appearance made Jaylen’s heart ache.

It was also at that moment that his feelings for Cyenne changed completely.

He had protected this little fool since childhood. She could only belong to him, and she had to belong to him.

At that moment, Jaylen developed an overwhelming possessiveness toward Cyenne. But as heaven’s favored son, he was unwilling to admit that he had fallen for a woman as foolish and useless as Cyenne.

He was so intelligent and so outstanding that someone like Seraphina, a top scholar, ought to be the one by his side. That would have been the perfect match of a talented man and a beautiful woman.

Besides, Cyenne was his sister. Even though they were not related by blood, he had lived with Cyenne for a full eighteen years. For all those eighteen years, he had always treated Cyenne as his own biological sister… How could he fall in love with his own sister?

That discomfort, that sense of incest, also kept Jaylen from admitting that he harbored romantic feelings for Cyenne.

So he stubbornly labeled all of it as sibling affection. While he indulged Cyenne without limit, he kept brainwashing himself: “I only think of her as my sister. What we have is sibling affection, not love.”

“Sera, I know that no matter what I say now, you won’t believe me anymore.” Jaylen said with a bitter smile. “But I still have to explain myself. The reason I slept with Cyenne that day was because she drugged me.”

“I admit that I had improper feelings for Cyenne, but I’m not some cheating bastard, and I didn’t lie to you. I truly wanted to treat Cyenne as my sister. I wanted to protect my little fool, nothing more… Maybe, just like you said, I told the lie of sibling affection so many times that in the end, I deceived even myself.”

How laughable. The little fool he had protected all his life had turned out to be a vicious snake.

He had never seen through Cyenne at all. He had been kept in the dark by her and deceived completely.

Perhaps he was the true complete fool after all.
