We Died So He Could Love Chapter 16

“You know?”

“Why did you lie to me?”

His voice was dangerously low, making it feel even colder.

But Carla seemed to miss the menace in his tone.

She picked up another piece of fruit and popped it into her mouth.

“Since you already know, there’s nothing to explain.”

“Stop eating!”

Kieran slapped the fruit from her hand.

“Carla, haven’t I been good enough to you?”

“Why did you have to hurt her? Did you hate Blythe that much?”

Carla lifted her head. For the first time, her eyes held none of their usual fragile pretense.

“Because she had no right to fight me for you.”

“I’m the one who grew up with you. I’m the one who should have married you, not her.”

As she spoke, her eyes bored into Kieran’s.

The possessiveness in her stare sent a chill down his spine.

He had never seen such a frightening obsession in anyone’s eyes.

Carla continued.

“Do you know why those stray cats always died when we were children? Because they got close to you.”

“You’re mine. Mine alone. No one can touch you. Not even animals.”

Kieran took a step back.

“You’re insane.”

“Yes, I am insane!”

Carla suddenly laughed, but there was no amusement in her eyes.

“I fell in love with you the day you ran into that fire to save me!”

“We were together for so long, but you always kept me at a distance.”

“Then you got married, and I had to endure everyone’s judgment just to stay by your side.”

“But your heart was divided among too many people. The little bit I got was never enough.”

Only then did Kieran truly understand.

The person standing before him wasn’t a pitiable old friend, but a woman who had completely lost her mind.

After that, he cut off all contact with Carla and took back everything he had ever given her.
