He was stunned. He didn’t understand.
“Walk our own paths? What does that mean?”
“I already sent you the electronic versions of the *Divorce Agreement* and the *Property Settlement Agreement*. Sign them if everything looks fine.”
He was shaken.
“You… you actually want a divorce?”
“Evelyn, how dare you? After all these years together…”
I didn’t want to hear his sentimental speech. I cut him off directly.
“Adrian, the moment you chose to settle in Geneva, our outcome was already decided.”
“An engineer can do research anywhere. But the person doing the research has their own choices. Their own sense of belonging.”
“I’ve already joined Nexagen. You should understand what that means. My future is here. Not at some research institute in Europe. Not by your and Clara’s side, serving as an on-call support staff.”
Adrian’s breathing grew heavier.
“So you’re abandoning me for your career?”
“You abandoned me first. You chose Clara.”
“I didn’t. Clara and I are innocent…”
“Stop pretending. I heard everything you said to Marcus.”
