Westley You Are Late Chapter 24

Westley You Are Late Chapter 24

The color drained from Westley’s face.

He didn’t answer.

But his silence was an answer in itself.

I had thought that hearing those words might still cause a flicker of pain.

But it didn’t.

Instead, my mind went back to the operating room a year ago.

Before the anesthesia took me under, I had stared at his two-word text— “Suit yourself “—for a very long time.

Now, looking at him, I felt no hatred. Only a vast, empty distance.

Leo, however, looked as though he was hearing this for the first time.

He lunged forward and grabbed Westley by the collar.

“You knew she and I… and you still slept with her?”

Westley shoved him back.

“What right do you have to question me?”

“That’s enough,” I said.

All three of them turned to look at me.

I glanced at the two reports on the table.

“If you want to fight over whose child this is, take it somewhere else.”

Sofia wiped at her tears.

“That’s not why I came.”

As if suddenly remembering her purpose, she marched over to me.

“Westley promised me he’d give me that project.”

For a second, I didn’t understand.

She repeated herself.

“The one you spent three months on.”

“As long as you give it to me, I’ll leave right now. I won’t bother you again.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Sofia, have you forgotten? Westley never had the right to promise you my work.”

She turned to Westley.

“You told me she would definitely give it to me.”

Westley’s lips parted.

But no words came out.

I pulled my tablet from my bag and opened the proposal, already on its seventeenth version.

Only my name was on the title page.

Every revision was timestamped in black and white.

“From the first line of data to the final chart, I did every bit of this myself.”

I turned the screen toward her.

“If you can find a single page in here that belongs to Westley, I’ll let him make the decision for me.”

Sofia stared at the screen, her face shifting from red to white and back again.

Of course, she couldn’t find anything.

Because he had never been a part of it.

She had just heard Westley say he would give it to her, and she had actually started to believe someone else’s hard work was hers for the taking.

Thatcher gestured to hotel security.

As Sofia was being escorted out, she was still crying, still demanding of Westley, “Why did you lie to me?”

Westley didn’t move.

After a long moment, he said in a low, dead voice, “Because I thought she would never say no to me.”
