When My Eyes Opened Again Chapter 07
Because Carmen had pulled strings in advance, the staff at the psychiatric hospital locked me in the utility closet closest to the bathroom.
Every day, they forced me to swallow heavy doses of “therapeutic medication,” and if I refused, electroshocks in the “treatment room” awaited me.
I finally realized that Carmen didn’t just want to torment me; she wanted me dead.
That day, after being forced to swallow the pills again, I waited until they left and shoved my fingers down my throat to throw them up.
Right after I cleaned up the regurgitated medicine, the orderly came in to announce that Brady was here to visit me.
Seeing that after only three days of confinement I had already become so disheveled and listless, a flicker of shock flashed across Brady’s eyes.
Yet perhaps because Carmen had said something to him beforehand, he didn’t react any further.
He simply pushed the food container in his hand toward me: “You’ve had a rough few days. I brought you food prepared by our cook at home. Eat a little first.”
Watching me devour the four dishes and soup he brought, a trace of pity surfaced on Brady’s face.
He slid a document in front of me: “Honey, I know you’ve been wronged, so I plan to transfer several properties in the southern suburbs under your name. Just sign this and cooperate with the treatment. Once you’re better, I’ll take you home, okay?”
As he spoke, he thoughtfully flipped the contract to the last page, pressed a pen into my hand, and guided it to the signature line: “Honey, just sign right here.”
Relying on the fact that I was supposed to be “blind,” he thought I couldn’t see the bold words on the document: Divorce Agreement.
So, he was already this impatient to be with Carmen.
Still, it worked out fine. Severing my very last tie with Brady before leaving was my wish too.
I quickly signed my name, but secretly slipped the fountain pen up my sleeve.
Before Brady left, I asked in a low voice: “Even after seeing me suffer like this, you’re still going to keep me locked up here for Carmen, aren’t you?”
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Brady squeezed my fingers, brushing me off just like he always did. “There are some things at the company I need to handle. Focus on getting better, honey. I’ll make time to visit you often from now on.”
A faint smile curled on my lips, and I nodded with utter calm and solemnity.
“All right… Goodbye, Brady.”
There would be no “from now on.” Today was the last time I would ever see him.
That night, the orderly pushed open the door of my utility closet carrying the medication, roughly shoving “me” under the quilt.
“Hey, get your ass up and take your medicine!”
Frowning, she whipped off the quilt, only to find nothing but a teddy bear lying underneath!
At that moment, I stepped up behind her, covered her mouth, and pressed the nib of the fountain pen I had swiped from Brady against her carotid artery.
“Don’t move. Put the tray down and put your hands up.”
The orderly, who had always been the cruelest to me, was now trembling with sheer terror.
She immediately raised her hands as told, and in the next second, I knocked her unconscious with a sharp blow to the neck.
I changed into her uniform as fast as I could and searched her for the key to the storage room.
Then, keeping my head down to avoid the surveillance cameras, I retrieved my phone and personal belongings, and escaped the psychiatric hospital.
In the airport waiting lounge, I edited and saved the evidence I had into two copies!
One copy went to the police, containing proof of Brady conspiring with Carmen to illegally harvest my skin, his marital infidelity, as well as Carmen and Lucas’s kidnapping and abuse.
The other copy was sent to all the major media outlets in Los Angeles.
I used the entire one hundred million my sister had transferred to me as promotional fees for the press.
I wanted Brady and Carmen’s filthy scenes displayed across the giant plaza screens for everyone in Los Angeles to see; I wanted them utterly ruined.

Having done all this, I shut my laptop and walked toward the boarding gate without once looking back.
The plane tore through the sky, carrying me away from this land steeped in lies and betrayal.
-THE END-
