You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 35

After the interview aired, cards and letters flooded the learning center.

One of them was unsigned.

It only said:

I’m sorry, Amaris.

I looked at it for a moment, then put it in the drawer with the others.

I didn’t try to guess who had sent it.

An apology can be heard, but that doesn’t mean it has to be exchanged for forgiveness.

Ronan eventually left the city.

He never sent money again.

My parents also kept their promise and never came to see me.

As for Sofia, that last livestream of hers remained online.

She had wanted the world to judge me, but in the end, she had only left more evidence of her own actions.

I no longer paid attention to where she went or what she did.

Their lives had nothing to do with me anymore.

After the anniversary party at the center, the children crowded around the cake, arguing over who got the biggest piece.

Miller’s uneven slices almost caused a riot.

“Stop grabbing!” She slapped the table. “Leo, you cut it!”

Leo had just taken the knife when several children complained in unison.

“He’s not as good at math as Ms. Amaris!”

“What does cutting a cake have to do with math?”

“It has to be equal!”

The classroom erupted in laughter.

I stood in the doorway, watching them.

I suddenly remembered the confetti scattered across the floor after Sofia’s eighteenth birthday.

Back then, I had thought a lively house was a home.

Later, I learned that home wasn’t about the size of the cake or the car in the driveway.

It was someone asking if you were hurt when you fell.

It was also no one forcing you to nod when you said no.
