The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 39
I looked at him.
“What things?”
“Stop pretending, Meredith. Did you think you could take that many treasures and swallow them all yourself? You’re only the heir, not the family leader. Carrying that many treasures alone—aren’t you afraid they’ll crush you? If you know what’s good for you, hand them over. Otherwise, the Romano family has no place for you.”
I stared at him.
“My guardian obtained those treasures. That means I obtained them. Opportunities belong to whoever finds them. Why should I hand them over? When you went into the Threshold in the past, did you ever share what you got?”
“Meredith, I have no interest in arguing with you. News that you acquired those treasures has already spread through all the major families. If you hand them over, the Romano family can still protect you. But if you cling to them, then when the other families come to kill you, all we can do is cast you out. Don’t blame us for being heartless.”
After hearing that, I laughed out loud.
The leader’s face turned even colder.
“What are you laughing at?”
I didn’t answer.
I wrapped an arm around Paloma’s neck.
“Paloma, let’s go.”
Paloma lifted me with one hand.
Before any of them could react, she had already shot into the sky, disappearing in an instant.
She flew far too fast.
All I could vaguely hear behind us was shouting.
“After them! Hurry!”
