The Wife He Couldn’t Bring Home Chapter 04

When I woke up, I was already pinned tightly to an operating table by two corporate security guards from the Mercer Group. This wasn’t the hospital where I had made my appointment.

Cole, Paige, and a group of people were sitting not far away, watching me.

“What are you doing? Let me go!”

I struggled frantically, but the two guards’ hands were like iron tongs. No matter what I did, I couldn’t break free.

I could only watch as a private doctor in a white coat slowly approached me holding cold medical instruments.

“Mr. Mercer, should I administer anesthesia?”

“No need. I want her to remember this pain forever! Make it so she’ll never dare to hurt Paige again!”

“No… Cole, what on earth are you doing!”

The fear in my heart reached its peak, and my tears fell uncontrollably.

Whenever I cried in the past, it would break Cole’s heart.

But now, he remained completely unmoved, protecting another woman instead.

“I told you, I want the child in your belly to pay for Paige’s child.”

His demonic voice rang out, and I hurriedly yelled, “No, Cole, I don’t have your—”

Before I could finish my sentence, the private doctor picked up the instrument and thrust it into my body.

“Ah!”

Intense agony crashed over me, and I couldn’t say another word.

My entire body trembled. With every breath, I felt like I was going to die.

“No… Cole… Let me go!”

I begged for mercy, trembling, feeling the instruments churning inside my body over and over again.

But the stares of the people around me, and Cole’s cold, indifferent gaze, only drove me deeper into despair.

“Mr. Mercer, it looks like she can’t hold on much longer. Should I continue?”

“Continue!”

I didn’t know how much time had passed, but I heard Paige say, “This is terrifying. I don’t want to watch anymore, Cole. I feel a little sick.”

“I’ll take you outside.”

Cole took her out, and the rest of the people followed.

I couldn’t hold on any longer and passed out completely.

When I woke up, there was no one around me.

My abdomen throbbed with pain, as if I were still bleeding.

Just moving a little hurt so much I thought I would pass out from the pain.

I lay in this private clinic for two days. Cole would always come to see me when I was asleep.

I knew, but I pretended to be asleep.

Because I no longer wanted to say a single word to him.

On the morning of the third day, I felt much better and prepared to be discharged.

The nurse stopped me. “Mrs. Mercer, Mr. Mercer seems to be hosting a celebratory banquet today for Miss Paige’s appointment to the foundation. After the banquet is over, he will come to pick you up in person. You should wait for him.”

I was in so much agony, yet he was throwing a celebration banquet for Paige?

“I’m not Mrs. Mercer. I have nothing to do with him anymore.”

I struggled to walk out of the clinic and took a cab to the law firm.

“How far along is the divorce process between Cole and me now?”

“The court has already accepted the divorce petition Cole filed, and the temporary orders have been issued. This is your copy.”

“Give me my copy.”

I took the divorce petition and the court documents. Seeing my name printed on them, my eyes welled up with tears.

It was all over. I could finally leave Cole.

I didn’t even go back to get my luggage. I took a cab straight to the airport.

Before the plane took off, I posted a status update.

[From today onward, I, Maya Brennan, and Cole Mercer are making a clean break. Everything is reset to zero. We are completely done with each other.]

Then, I blocked and deleted Cole, Paige, and all those friends, one by one.

Cole, for the rest of my life, I only wish to never see you again.
