The Wife He Couldn’t Bring Home Chapter 02
Leaving the shopping district, I asked the store to save and secure the security footage, and I notified my lawyer and the police to go and retrieve a copy.
Then I called the family lawyer. “Mr. Sinclair, I want to formally file for divorce.”
“Mrs. Mercer, don’t you know? Mr. Mercer already submitted a unilateral divorce petition to the court a few days ago, along with a drafted property division agreement.”
A few days ago?
The day Paige found out she was pregnant?
“Mr. Mercer said that once you give birth to the child, he will withdraw the application and bring you back.”
Bring me back?
I laughed.
That would be absolutely impossible now.
Hanging up the phone, I booked the abortion procedure at that private hospital.
I didn’t go home. I went straight to the hospital.
“Mrs. Mercer, the surgery is about to begin. Do you need me to notify anyone?”
“Mr. Mercer is right upstairs in the VIP ward. I saw him and a group of people surrounding a woman, fussing over her…” The nurse stopped halfway when she noticed my pale expression and shut her mouth.
“There’s no need. I’ll sign it myself.”
I signed the consent form.
Up in the VIP ward, he was guarding someone else.
Meanwhile, I lay on the operating table, received the anesthesia, and lost consciousness.
When I woke up again, the surgery was over.
I touched my flat stomach, knowing the baby was gone.
My nose stung. Holding back my tears, I asked, “When can I be discharged?”
“You can leave now, but it’s best if someone comes to pick you up.”
“There’s no need.” I signed the discharge confirmation and called a car myself.
I forced myself to hold on and returned to the Mercer family estate. When I walked in, the butler immediately came over to support me.
“Mrs. Mercer, why do you look so pale?”
“I’m fine.”
I turned my head to look at the living room, which was piled high with packing boxes of my personal belongings.
“What is the meaning of this?”
“Mr. Mercer called back and told us to pack up all your things in the master bedroom. Miss Paige needs to rest and recover. The master bedroom gets good sunlight, which is good for her health.”
“Okay.”
I didn’t have much of a reaction. I was leaving anyway.
“Then which room would you like to stay in, Mrs. Mercer? I’ll help you move your things.”
“No need. Just leave the luggage here.”
Night fell, and I slept in the guest room.
It was already dark. Tomorrow morning, I would leave this place, and I would leave Cole.Â
