The Wife He Couldn’t Bring Home Chapter 07

From the hotel to the estate, he blew past three security gates along the way.

When he pushed the door open, the butler was startled. “Mr. Mercer?”

“Has Mrs. Mercer returned?”

“No… Mrs. Mercer hasn’t returned at all. Her things are all here. Nothing is missing.”

Cole stood in the empty living room, his gaze sweeping over Maya’s packed personal belongings—they were still piled in the corner, untouched.

He breathed a sigh of relief. She didn’t even take her luggage. She would definitely come back.

He pulled out his phone, opened his chat with Maya, and typed, “Maya, where are you? Stop throwing a tantrum. I’ll have someone pick you up.”

An exclamation mark popped up next to the message. It wouldn’t go through no matter what.

Cole froze for a moment and sent another one. It still failed.

He dialed her number, and an automated female voice repeated, “The person you are calling is unavailable.”

He scrolled through his contacts and called Maya’s friends one by one.

“She blocked me too.”

“I don’t know where she is.”

“Cole, stop calling me. Maya doesn’t want to see you.”

Cole stood in the living room, the veins bulging on his temples.

For the first time, he felt a sense of panic. Maya had never been like this. No matter how angry she was, she would ignore him for a few days at most. She had never blocked him before.

Just then, the doorbell rang. The family lawyer, Sinclair, stood at the door.

“Mr. Mercer, the court’s accepted documents have arrived.”

Cole took the folder. Inside was the divorce petition Cole had filed, along with a copy of the temporary orders, bearing his name.

He flipped through them over and over, searching twice. “Where’s the other copy?”

Sinclair pushed up his glasses. “Maya came by this morning and took her copy. She said that from now on, she has absolutely nothing to do with you.”
