He Tested Me With Prenup I Left Him With Regret Chapter 10
“The bracelet was in your car, and you still had me search Maya’s luggage.”
His voice was cold enough to freeze the room.
“What do you have to say for yourself?”
Celeste had gone white.
Just then, Grant’s phone rang.
Unknown number. Chicago area code.
His breath caught, and he answered immediately.
Maya’s voice on the other end was flat and utterly cold.
“Grant, why have you been harassing my advisor and my former coworkers?”
She paused for a second.
“What exactly do you still want?”
Grant gripped the phone tighter. “I saw the full chat history. About the bracelet—I was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you. Maya, I’m sorry. I just wanted to explain in person—”
“Were you unaware,” she asked, “or did you just never care enough to find out?”
Her voice was almost emotionless in its calm.
“The bracelet was in her car. One phone call would have confirmed it, but you chose to believe her and let me empty my luggage in front of you.”
Grant’s breathing grew heavier. “I was being influenced by her.”
“What about the night before the certification exam?”
He went abruptly silent.
Maya continued, “Celeste lied and told me Lucy was having an acute asthma attack. I rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night, only to find Lucy perfectly fine. Your friend Colton and the others were standing in the hallway, laughing at me. And you were there, too.”
That night, she had missed the exam the next day.
“Grant, were you just being influenced by her every single time?”
His lips moved, but in the end, he only managed three words.
“I’m sorry.”
Maya gave a soft, empty laugh.
“You apologize so quickly. It’s a shame your trust never arrived nearly as fast.”
Then the call disconnected.
Celeste immediately shrieked, “She’s dragging up old stories for sympathy! How long has it even been? She’s doing this on purpose—”
“Enough!”
Grant slammed the phone onto the table so hard the cups and plates rattled.
His eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Celeste.
“She missed an exam that could have changed her entire career because of your lies.”
“And you call that fishing for sympathy?”
