I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 12
The academic counselor said they sounded anxious.
I didn’t really believe him.
They had probably just realized there was no one left at the estate to do the work, and that was the only reason they finally remembered me.
Just then, Chloe called, so excited she was nearly shouting.
“Cosima, check the news! You got first place nationally in the individual competition you entered over break!”
“That was a national-level security algorithm competition. Even Luca ranked behind you. You’re terrifying.”
My heart gave a violent thud.
The next second, another text popped up on my phone from an unfamiliar number.
“Cosima, it’s Dad.”
“Everyone at home is worried about you. If you have time, could you call home?”
Worried.
Coming from them, the word meant nothing to me.
It had been five months.
If they were truly worried, it wouldn’t have looked like this.
I didn’t even know when they had noticed I was gone.
A day later?
A week later?
Or was it only after Luca posted that photo that my father heard my name from another Family?
I didn’t want to ask.
I deleted the text and added the number to my block list.
“Cosima Marino, congratulations. The school has recommended you to represent the United States in an international competition.”
After class, the academic counselor called me over again.
“We hope you’ll bring back a great result.”
“Thank you. I will.”
