I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 11

On Christmas Day, Luca, myself, and a few other students staying on campus celebrated together.

We bought a Christmas tree, hung lights on it, and put presents underneath.

Luca arrived last and set a very small box in front of me. Inside was an old-fashioned fountain pen engraved with my name.

“A prize,” he said. “For beating me in the last round of model testing.”

As I opened the other gifts, my nose suddenly stung.

In eighteen years, this was the first Christmas I had ever received presents that were truly mine.

Before, every time I was supposed to get a reward, it was either forgotten or endlessly postponed.

Now, everyone in front of me was waiting for me to open my gifts.

I took pictures of every single one and saved them to a new album.

I wanted to make an album just for myself.

Only things that belonged to me would go in it.

After school started again, the academic counselor asked to see me.

The moment I stepped into his office, he said,

“Your family has been calling the school, looking for you.”

My fingers tightened.

So they finally knew I was at Aurelia Academy.

“Your mother keeps asking if you’re enrolled here. And someone claiming to be a consigliere for the Marino Family wanted to confirm your address. I didn’t give it to him.”

He looked at me, his tone careful.

“I don’t know what’s going on with your family, but they sounded very anxious.”

“I know.”

I cut him off.

“I’m an adult. The Marino Family never gave me any formal status, and they have no right to demand the school hand over my location.”

I turned and walked out of the office, then sat on the stairs for a long time without moving.
