I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 10
Winter break was coming.
My roommates started packing, getting ready to go home.
I stared at the words *winter break* on my phone’s calendar for a long time.
“Cosima, when are you heading home?”
Chloe was sprawled across her bed, smiling at me.
Home.
I had almost forgotten that word.
“I’m not going back. I’m staying on campus to finish up some projects.”
Luca and I had already agreed to sign up separately for next year’s national science competition.
When the time came, I wanted to see exactly how far apart we really were.
This winter break was the perfect time to prepare.
“You work way too hard. What about your family…?”
Chloe was about to ask more when Emma gently tugged at her arm.
“Okay. Well, we’ll bring you back something good to eat.”
“Deal.”
Once break started, the campus grew much quieter.
Only once in a while would someone pass through the dorm hallway.
I still spent my days moving between the dorm, the library, and the dining hall.
Sometimes Luca would call to talk through data.
During our calls, he’d occasionally throw in a question.
“I don’t even push myself this hard. You should take a break.”
“I know.”
Then both ends of the line would fall silent.
