After returning to the interrogation room, Caius collapsed into the chair as if all his bones had been removed.
He stared at the ceiling, his eyes empty.
The image of that arm was burned into his mind.
A long time passed before he spoke.
“How did it come to this…”
Tears slid down his face, dripping onto the handcuffs.
“I didn’t want to kill her.”
“I just wanted to teach her a lesson.”
“Josephine said it was only a joke.”
At the mention of Josephine’s name, the detective gave a cold laugh and threw her signed statement in front of him.
“Still waiting for your lover to save you?”
“Take a look at what she said.”
Caius opened the statement with trembling hands.
It was written in neat, clear script.
Josephine claimed Caius had directed the entire thing.
She said Caius had been fed up with Meredith for a long time. He wanted to be with her, but he didn’t want to split their assets in a divorce, so he came up with this “accident.”
The real knife had been switched out at Caius’s instruction.
Throwing away the box had also been arranged by Caius.
“Bullshit!”
Caius tore the pages in half.
