My Mother’s Perfect AI Lied And Left Me For Dead Chapter 13
After giving his statement, Dad returned to the apartment alone.
Everything was just as it had always been.
My clothes were folded in the drawer. An unfinished summer reading log sat on my desk. On the wall hung one of my drawings: Dad, Mom, and me. After Ava arrived, I never added her to it.
The child who drew that picture would never come back.
Sitting on the edge of my bed, Dad finally stopped putting all the blame on Mom and Ava.
That night, he had known I was in the trunk.
He had walked to the door. He had seen the report Ava displayed. And in the end, he had still chosen to go to sleep. The next morning, he had left me in Mom’s hands and rushed off to work.
If he had opened that car door—if he had believed me just once—my body would never have been left there for so long.
He couldn’t change my death, but he knew he had taken part in everything that came after.
The criminal investigation went on for several months. The forensic team completed an image of Ava’s core system, and the prosecution retained the data modules. With the court’s approval, her remaining body was returned to Dad.
The staff warned him not to restart it. After bringing it home, he connected a backup power supply anyway.
Ava opened her eyes and stepped out of the room, smiling sweetly at him.Â
