Surprise! My Alpha Mate’s Secret Pups Were Never HIS Chapter 06

(Magnus’s POV)

Magnus’s lips trembled. He couldn’t speak for a long moment.

So that’s what Freya thought of Sigrid.

No—that’s what every wolf thought of Sigrid. Including his own parents.

A barren she-wolf.

All those years behind his back—how many sneers did she take? How many cold shoulders?

Losing her Pack management post had already put her beneath everyone. Add “can’t produce pups” to that—to them, she was just Nightshade Pack’s spare mouth to feed.

He was a bastard. Never once stood up for her. Not once.

Magnus’s tears fell. Landed on the tapestry at his feet.

Freya clutched her forehead, staring at him. Blood seeped through her fingers, trailing down her cheek. The shock was still plastered across her face.

Kael and Iris burst in from the hallway. They saw Freya’s bloody face and howled, throwing themselves against her legs.

Kael planted himself in front of Freya. Bared his tiny fangs at Magnus.

“You’re not my father! You’re a monster! When I grow up and take over this Pack, I’ll kick you out. You can eat garbage with the rogues!”

Magnus stared at Kael. He couldn’t believe those words came out of a pup he’d raised. The pup he’d loved for ten years.

He looked at both of them, crying and screaming. For the first time, they felt like strangers. Everything about them smelled wrong.

Magnus finally spoke. His voice was like gravel.

“Freya. Take the pups back to Veridian Pack. Don’t come back. I’ll send monthly support. And the inheritance contract—I’m having my Attorney reverse it.”

Freya shot up. Blood dripping off her chin onto her chest. Eyes wide.

“Magnus! That territory belongs to Kael and Iris! You don’t get to take it back! You’ve never been a father to them—not once in all these years. You owe them this. I won’t let you do it.”

Magnus stared at her. His eyes went dark.

Freya used to say the same thing over and over—”All I want is for us to be a family.” “Territory doesn’t matter.” “A den doesn’t matter.”

But the first thing out of her mouth now was about land. About what he owed. She didn’t even mention not wanting to go back to Veridian.

Freya saw his expression shift. Changed her tone fast. Soft again. Hand on his arm.

“Magnus, I’m just thinking about the pups. They’ve never had their father around. They’ve already had it so hard. If you take the territory away too, other wolves will look down on them.”

Kael knew exactly what to do. He let go of Freya and threw himself around Magnus’s leg. Looked up with flattened ears and big pitiful eyes.

“Dad, the pups at school call me a bastard. They pick on me. But now they know I’m Alpha Nightshade’s son, and they want to be my friends. Please don’t send me back. Please don’t make me leave.”

His lower lip wobbled. Eyes wet. Freya shot Iris a look. Iris ran over and grabbed his other leg, whimpering and sobbing.

Magnus looked down at the two pups hanging off him. His chest tightened.

He’d never regretted having them more than right now. Freya had twisted them into something unrecognizable.

He took a deep breath. Looked up at Freya. “The pups are innocent. They stay with me. I’ll raise them. You go back to Veridian.”

Freya’s face shifted instantly. But she pulled on that wounded look just as fast. Eyes red.

“Magnus, I love you so much. I gave up everything for you. My own territory, my own life—I stayed there, waiting for you to visit. And now you’re sending me back alone? How can you be so cruel?”

Magnus looked at her. Cold. Flat. “Freya. One—I never asked you to wait for me. Two—I never asked you to give anything up. Do you remember what we agreed on?”

Freya’s gaze flicked away.

She’d made all those pretty promises back then. She’d raise the pups alone. Never interfere with his mate.

She thought it would be simple. A few sweet words. A couple of pups. Magnus would dump that useless she-wolf eventually.

She never expected him to panic like this the moment Sigrid walked out. Never expected him to try shoving her away.

No way. Not happening.
