The Underboss’s Doormat Wife Is The Don’s Queen Chapter 01

The Underboss’s Secret

I am the second-to-last person in the entire Syndicate to find out that my husband, Dante, the Underboss, is sleeping with my best friend.

Through the cracked door, I can hear the capos and lieutenants betting on whether I’ll leave him.

“Aria will never divorce him. She’s completely dependent on him!” one of the men laughs, taking a drag from his cigar.

“Exactly. Dante is the Underboss now. Aria is just a spineless little doormat. Without him, she’s nothing. How could she possibly compete with Mia?”

“Mia, babe, tell us. Is his pathetic wife causing trouble at home?”

My best friend, Mia, one of the Syndicate’s high-ranking associates, smirks. She confidently straddles my husband’s lap and runs her fingers through his dark hair.

“Aria? Causing trouble?” Dante chuckles.

“She wouldn’t dare.”

Mia kisses Dante right in front of his men.

I stand in the dark hallway, my nails digging so hard into my palms that they break the skin.

Suddenly, I realize they invited me to the club tonight on purpose.

They wanted me to see this.

They wanted to watch my reaction and humiliate me for their own amusement.

If I wanted Dante’s money or his life, I could take either one a thousand different ways.

But since he desperately wants to play this game, I’ll play along.

I pull out my phone and dial a number.

Victor. Mia’s husband.

Victor is the Syndicate’s top hitman. He is a violent psychopath with a hair-trigger temper. He has butchered men just for looking at Mia the wrong way.

“Victor,” I whisper into the phone, making my voice sound hesitant. “Mia is at the Syndicate Club. I think she’s had too much to drink. You should come pick her up.”

“Who is she drinking with?” Victor asks.

“Just some guys. They’re getting pretty handsy. You better hurry.”

“I’m on my way.”

I hang up.

Victor once proudly told Dante, “Mia is my entire world. I keep a blade on me at all times, just in case anyone dares to touch what’s mine.”

Just as I turn toward the club entrance, my phone lights up.

It’s Mia.

“Aria, you’re here, aren’t you?” she says.

“The bartender said you were standing outside the booth. You saw everything, didn’t you?”

I let out a soft, pathetic hum.

Mia laughs.

“You really are a useless coward.”

It’s true.

Everyone in the Syndicate thinks I’m weak.

When Dante and I were teenagers, I was just the quiet girl who followed him around. He was the ambitious rising star. I was his obedient shadow.

“Are you too scared to even walk into the room, Aria? It’s no fun if you won’t play along.”

Through the cracked door, the men inside erupt into cheers and laughter.

Then Dante takes the phone from her.

“If we’d known you were this terrified of losing me, we wouldn’t have bothered hiding it. But honestly? Fucking your best friend behind your back has been pretty exciting.”

“I have to say, Aria. She’s a hell of a lot better in bed than you are.”

“Where are you? In the bathroom?” Dante asks.

“I’ll come find you. Don’t throw a tantrum.”

I watch from the end of the hallway as Dante steps out of the VIP booth and spots me by the exit.

He walks over without a hint of shame and casually strokes my cheek.

“Don’t look so heartbroken, Aria. I’m not going to divorce you. You’re still my wife.”

Right on cue, Mia saunters out of the booth, rubbing her temples.

She walks straight into Dante’s arms, rests her chin on his broad shoulder, and shoots me a triumphant look.

“Dante, my head hurts. The guys made me drink too much.”

“Take me to the hotel. Aria already knows anyway, so there’s no need to hide anymore. She doesn’t mind, right?”

Mia looks at me.

A wicked smirk curves her red lips.

At that exact moment, my phone buzzes in my pocket.

A text from Victor:
