He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 16
Boston society buzzed with speculation.
But I had no energy to spare for any of it.
I was busy planning Evelyn’s wedding.
At last, Evelyn married the man she loved.
Unlike in my previous life, where she had run away after faking her death, this time her wedding was a joyful celebration held by the bay.
I was so happy for her that I drank a few too many glasses of champagne.
I had meant to go rest for a while in one of the hotel rooms, but when I opened my eyes again, I was jolted awake by violent shaking.
I pushed myself up and peered over the seat in front of me.
Adrian was driving an SUV at breakneck speed along a winding mountain road. The trees on either side were a green blur.
“Adrian, are you insane?”
The vehicle lurched, and I fell back into the rear seat.
Adrian slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
As he spoke, he started to climb over the seat to check on me.
I pulled the metal hairpin from my hair and aimed it at him.
“Kidnapping the wife of a Suffolk County assistant district attorney is a felony, even for the heir to the Hawthorne Group. Adrian, let me go now, and I can pretend this never happened.”
Adrian laughed. Ignoring the sharp point, he grabbed the pin and tore it from my hand.
He didn’t seem to feel the pain as blood welled from his palm.
He stared at me, his eyes burning.
“Claire, you loved me for so long. I don’t believe you feel nothing for me now.”
“It was my fault. I mistook the affection I had for Evelyn from growing up together for love.”
“In our last life, neither of us would back down. Now that we have another chance, can’t we start over?”
“No,” I said without a second thought. “I don’t love you anymore.”
Evelyn once told me that loving someone should be a happy thing.
Just mentioning their name should make you smile. Being with them should bring you joy.
But in my previous life, all I ever felt was pain and humiliation.
What little happiness I had, Adrian destroyed with his own hands.
Somewhere in the distance, I thought I heard another engine. Adrian’s expression hardened.
“That’s all right,” he said. “We have plenty of time.”
