He Cheated With My Friend My Parents Helped Chapter 22
My lawyer submitted the agreement from eight years ago along with the final judgment. Gabriel had no legal ground to stand on.
He was silent for a long time before finally saying, “I’ll cooperate.”
After the hearing, he called my lawyer again.
“Please tell Mags I’m not trying to hold on to the money. I’m just afraid that once I hand it all over, there will be nothing left between us.”
My lawyer passed on his exact words.
I was organizing data in the lab and replied with a single sentence.
“There is already nothing left between us.”
A week later, my share of the real estate, the investment accounts, and every other marital asset had been fully transferred into my name.
When I saw the confirmation documents, I didn’t feel the satisfaction I’d imagined. I just felt relieved.
This time, no one could hold my life hostage.
That evening, Julian knocked on my door.
He didn’t ask about the money or what I planned to do with it. He simply handed me a box of cookies he had just baked.
“The committee approved your new project,” he said with a smile. “You’ll get the official notice tomorrow.”
I froze.
This was the project proposal I had submitted on my own after coming to Boston. From the initial concept to the final defense, I hadn’t relied on Julian’s position or asked him for a single favor.
“Really?”
“Really.”
I couldn’t help but smile.
Julian smiled back.
“Margot, the reason you’re happy right now is because you won this on your own.”
His words made my eyes sting.
I used to think marriage and family were my entire world. It wasn’t until that moment that I realized how much was left for me after leaving them behind.
My phone lit up on the table.
A text from an unknown number. Just one line.
[Was taking half his money not enough? Why do you have to keep pushing him?]
I didn’t need to ask to know it was Sienna.
