He Chose Her On Our Wedding Night So I Took Everything Chapter 37
The lake was quiet that Saturday.
There was no wall of flowers, no employees holding up phones, no one telling me to just say yes.
Wyatt brought two coffees and a bag of cinnamon rolls.
When we reached the old dock, he asked, “Is now okay?”
“Yes.”
Only then did he take out the ring.
“Elodie, I can’t promise I’ll never make a mistake.”
“But I promise I will always listen to you first, and I will always respect your answer.”
“Will you live with me, the way we agreed—together?”
I looked at him.
“What if I said I still need more time to think?”
His fingers tightened visibly around the small box.
“Then I’ll put the ring away and wait until you’ve thought it through.”
“You wouldn’t ask for a deadline?”
“No.”
I held out my hand.
“Then you don’t have to wait.”
He froze for two seconds before sliding the ring onto my finger.
It fit perfectly.
“When did you measure my finger?”
“I didn’t measure anything secretly,” he explained immediately.
“Last month, I asked what size rings you usually wear, and you told me.”
“I thought you were conducting a risk assessment.”
“In a way, I was.”
When he stood up, his eyes were a little red.
I took his hand.
“Wyatt, I’m not saying yes because you saved me, or because you won cases for Carrington.”
