He Chose Her On Our Wedding Night So I Took Everything Chapter 36

He spoke slowly, carefully.

“If you don’t want to get married, we can continue exactly as we are. If you do, we can first talk through everything—work, property, where we’d live, and every boundary that matters to you.”

“You don’t think talking about all that kills the romance?”

“The last time I prioritized romance, I was nearly escorted out by security.”

I laughed out loud.

“You remember that very clearly.”

“I will remember it for the rest of my life.”

After we returned to Los Angeles, we spent several months talking about the future.

I wouldn’t be leaving Carrington, and I wouldn’t give up my brand for a marriage.

He would continue to practice law, but for my personal matters, a different lawyer would provide independent advice.

If one of our work schedules changed at the last minute, it was on us to communicate that. Neither of us would commit the other to public events without asking.

Our families could offer suggestions, but they would not make our decisions for us.

After each point, Wyatt would ask, “Anything else?”

At last, I closed the final page of our notes.

“Nothing else for now.”

He didn’t take out a ring.

“Then, may I prepare?”

“Yes.”

“May I prepare, or may I propose?”

“Prepare first.”

He leaned back in his chair, looking almost relieved.

“This time, I’ll make sure I ask clearly.”

A month later, he sent me a message so formal it looked like a meeting invitation.

[This Saturday afternoon, would you be willing to go to Big Bear Lake with me? Just the two of us. I would like to propose. If you would prefer a different location, you can choose it.]

I stared at the message for a long time.

Then I replied:

[Yes. No decorations. No media.]

His reply contained only one word.

[Okay.]
