I Married His Enemy The Day He Married His Mistress Chapter 08
The New Family
After the wedding, the guests left one by one. Night settled in deep.
I was in the bedroom putting Leo to sleep.
For some reason, Leo was obsessed with Lucian. He clung to him constantly, refused to let go. I almost wondered if he’d mistaken him for his father.
Lucian was ruthless with everyone else, but with a kid like Leo, he seemed completely helpless. He tried putting on a stern face to scare him. Leo didn’t care at all.
So when Leo was finally drifting off, Lucian pushed the door open with liquor on his breath and woke him right back up.
Leo rubbed his eyes and sat up, mumbling, “Uncle Lucian, are you sleeping with us tonight?”
Lucian paused. Then a low laugh escaped him, voice rough with alcohol and something softer. “You want me to stay?”
Leo nodded, scooting over to make room.
I stood by the bed watching them. Something inside me went unexpectedly soft.
Lucian glanced at me. There was something in his eyes I couldn’t quite read.
He shrugged off his jacket and lay down beside Leo, his voice low. “Fine. Tonight I’ll stay. But starting tomorrow, you sleep in your own bed.”
Leo mumbled something in agreement, eyelids already heavy. He rolled over, back to Lucian, and within seconds he was out cold.
The room went quiet.
I poured a cup of strong tea and handed it to Lucian. He took it, sipped, but his eyes never left my face.
I shifted under his gaze. “What?”
He smiled, pulled me closer, and said low, “Nothing. You’re beautiful. Making my head spin.”
I scoffed. “You’re drunk. That’s why your head’s spinning. Drinking that much, aren’t you afraid someone comes to slit your throat tonight?”
Lucian leaned back against the headboard, hands behind his head, eyes half-closed. “A fly can’t get into the West Side without my permission. Everyone at the wedding was searched beforehand. Tonight is perfectly safe.”
His voice was low. Lazy.
I looked at him, half-lidded and loose with alcohol, yet still radiating the alertness of a predator at rest.
Then my phone rang.
Adrian’s voice blasted through on speaker, sharp with fury.
“Sienna! Don’t think this is over! Leo is my son! I will never let you take him! And you tell that Vale bastard, if he touches you, I will personally make sure he never has children of his own!”
Lucian turned his head to look at me.
I pulled the phone back. “Adrian, are you done? Leo is my son. He has nothing to do with you.”
On the other end, Adrian howled. “You wait! I will take Leo back! Sienna, don’t even think about leaving me!”
Like a madman.
I hung up and blocked his number.
Lucian rolled off the bed and walked over to me. Then, without warning, he reached out and patted my head.
“Don’t worry. I’m here.”
How did he know I was actually worried?
Adrian was the type who looked rational on the surface but had something unhinged buried deep. He’d do anything to get what he wanted. That’s probably why he’d thrown himself in front of bullets for me three times.
When I thought about it clearly, earning my love was never the point. Earning the Locke empire was.
“I promise you,” Lucian said. “As long as he doesn’t come looking for trouble, I’ll let him live.”
I looked up at him, surprised. “You think I’m worried about his safety?”
“Aren’t you?” His voice dropped, a low laugh that wasn’t quite light. “Or are you worried about something else?”
He paused. His fingers brushed gently across the crease between my brows. “Sienna, don’t tell me you’re worried about me.”
Shameless!
I glared at him. “Don’t flatter yourself.”
He pulled his hand back. “Either way, you’re my wife now. We have all the time in the world, honey.”
