My Husband The Judge Sentenced Me To Prison Chapter 07
An entire month passed.
Marcus used every connection he had as a judge, even hiring a private investigator, but found nothing.
It was as if I had vanished from the face of the earth.
No flight records, no car rentals, no credit card transactions.
It didn’t just mean I was gone. It meant someone was helping me—a professional who knew how to cover their tracks.
Panic set in.
He needed sleeping pills every night just to get a few hours of rest, and his dreams were filled with visions of the FBI storming his office and slapping him in handcuffs.
Leo was starting to panic, too.
Without me to organize his notes and edit his papers, his grades at Yale plummeted. Without me running the house, their lives descended into chaos.
“Dad,” Leo asked one night, “is Mom really never coming back?”
Marcus didn’t answer, just stared into his glass of whiskey.
“Did she go to the police?” Leo’s voice trembled. “The letter said she knew about the key…”
Marcus violently slammed the glass on the floor.
“Shut up!”
He stood there, breathing heavily, staring at the shattered glass.
“We pushed her to this,” Marcus said, his voice hoarse. “Leo, you stole her token. And I sent your mother to prison for money and for that woman.”
He looked at his son. “We’re accomplices.”
That night, for the first time in a long time, Marcus went into the empty guest room.
He picked up one of the notes about Leo’s case, and tears finally started to fall.
All the support he had taken for granted was now his silent accuser.
The next day, he rejected my father’s suggestion to “marry Valerie as soon as possible.”
“I’m not going to marry her,” Marcus told his shocked father-in-law. “My only wife is Sarah.”
“Are you crazy? For a criminal?”
“I’m doing it for myself,” Marcus said coldly. “And because I don’t want to wake up one day and find the woman sleeping next to me is calculating my life insurance policy.”
