My Husband The Judge Sentenced Me To Prison Chapter 06
He ended his afternoon hearing early and rushed home.
The moment he pushed open the guest room door, he froze.
The room was as sterile as a hotel.
On the desk sat the letter and the charred fragment of my diploma.
Marcus’s hands shook as he unfolded the paper.
After reading the few short lines, his legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the bed.
She knew.
She knew everything.
And she mentioned the “offshore bribe.”
Fear instantly overpowered his anger. If that evidence came out, it wouldn’t just be a divorce. He would be facing federal felony charges.
Just then, his eyes fell on the open nightstand drawer.
Inside were dozens of handwritten sticky notes and neatly organized pill bottles.
They were for his daily blood pressure medication, his liver supplements, and Leo’s vitamins. Each bottle was labeled with the precise dosage and time.
And on the sticky notes, in my neat, strong handwriting, were detailed legal analyses of his current cases:
[Smith v. State—watch for loopholes in the Fourth Amendment citation.]
[For Wednesday’s hearing, double-check the integrity of the prosecution’s evidence chain.]
[Leo’s mock trial argument has a logical flaw. Suggest a new angle.]
It was the handwriting of Sarah Caldwell, Juris Doctor, Yale Law.
For the last five years, he thought I was just a useless housewife who could barely make dinner.
The truth was, he couldn’t function without me.
Marcus sat on the floor, staring at the notes, a suffocating feeling closing in on him.
He thought he was supporting me.
In reality, I was holding his entire crumbling world together.
He frantically called my father.
“Dad, have you heard from Sarah?”
My father’s voice was as cold as ever. “No. It’s better that she’s gone. She was just upsetting Valerie. Marcus, now that she’s out of the picture, you and Valerie can finally get married. It will be good for your campaign.”
After he hung up, Marcus looked up to see Valerie walking into the room, her face full of expectation.
She was beautiful, ambitious, and radiant.
But looking at her now, a chill ran down Marcus’s spine.
“I have to find her,” Marcus muttered, not just to save his marriage, but to… silence her. “I have to find Sarah.”
