My Husband The Judge Sentenced Me To Prison Chapter 05
The next morning, everything in the Caldwell mansion was business as usual.
No one even noticed I was gone.
Marcus left for the courthouse in his tailored suit, his mind already on how to leverage Valerie’s connections for next year’s Senate race.
Leo whistled as he drove the Porsche Marcus had bought him to his classes at Yale.
Valerie slept in until noon, then came downstairs in my silk robe to sip expensive Blue Mountain coffee, playing the part of the lady of the house.
Only Rosa, the Latina cleaning lady, knew something was wrong.
The guest room was too clean.
The bed was perfectly made, the closet was empty, and even the old tin box where I kept my daily medications was gone.
Rosa’s heart sank. She had watched me go from a brilliant, rising star in the legal world to the ghost I had become.
She immediately dialed Marcus’s private number.
“Judge Caldwell,” she said, her voice trembling. “Ma’am… Mrs. Caldwell is gone! All of her things are gone!”
Marcus was in his chambers, sitting behind his bench.
“What?” he said, annoyed. “Where could she go? Her passport was confiscated, I froze her credit cards, and she doesn’t have a hundred dollars in cash to her name. She’s probably sulking in some cheap motel.”
“But sir, she left a letter…”
A cold knot formed in Marcus’s stomach.
“I understand.”
He hung up the phone, a terrible sense of dread washing over him.
