Premature Labor After The Alpha Took My Hospital Bag Chapter 09
The sharpened tip of the scissors sliced through the air, carrying every ounce of my hatred, aimed directly at Alina’s pupil.
Dennis threw himself forward and caught my wrist. The point stopped one centimeter from Alina’s eye.
“Melinda, calm down—she’s not worth ruining the rest of your life over. The enforcement squad will deal with her.”
His eyes were rimmed red as he looked at me, voice pleading, but his grip on my wrist didn’t waver for an instant.
Alina shrieked and scrambled behind Dennis on all fours, clutching the hem of his shirt for dear life.
“Dennis, save me! She’s insane—she’ll really kill me! Restrain her!”
Dennis backhanded her across the face with a crack that split her lip open and sent her crashing to the floor.
“Shut up! If it weren’t for you, my pup wouldn’t be dead and Melinda wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
“You destroyed my child and you crippled Melinda’s brother. You deserve death!”
He turned back to me, saw my tear-streaked face, and dropped to his knees before me with a heavy thud, arms wrapping around my legs.
“Melinda, every wrong is mine. I was blind and deaf—she pulled the wool over my eyes.”
“I don’t ask your forgiveness. Just give me a chance to atone. Let me spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
Looking at his sobbing, wretched face, all I felt was the bitterest irony. If only he’d known then what he knew now.
“Make it up to me? Can you bring my dead pup back to life? Can you make my brother stand up whole and unharmed?”
“Dennis, do you think dumping all the blame on her somehow absolves you?”
I wrenched my legs free from his grasp and stared down at him, nothing but revulsion and contempt in my eyes.
“You’re the one who locked the door. You cut the water and power. You ignored my screams for help. You sealed my only way out.”
“You are the most direct killer. You and Alina both belong in hell.”
My words drove into Dennis’s heart with surgical precision.
“And one more thing—haven’t you noticed our fated bond is already severed? The Moon Goddess herself took pity on what happened to me and cut it with her own hand.”
He stared at me, disbelief etched across every feature, then crumpled in on himself on the floor, a wretched, keening wail tearing from his throat.
The enforcement squad arrived at that moment. Shirley immediately stepped forward to explain the situation and submitted all the evidence.
Two officers flanked the limp, unresisting Alina and hauled her to her feet.
Alina shattered completely. She thrashed and fought, hair wild and tangled, shrieking at Dennis.
“Dennis, you can’t just abandon me! I did all of this for you! You can’t let them take me away!”
Dennis kept his back to her, face buried in his hands as he wept. He wouldn’t even look at her, letting the enforcement squad drag her away without a word.
The corridor finally fell silent. All that remained was Dennis’s muffled sobbing, and the wailing of the infant abandoned in the corner.
I walked over to the baby and looked down at his flushed little face. I felt nothing.
“Dennis, take this child and get out of my sight. I never want to see you again for as long as I live.”
With those words, I turned around, straightened my spine, and walked toward the exit without looking back.
Dennis called my name in desperation behind me. He tried to scramble to his feet to chase after me but crashed heavily to the floor.
He finally understood. What he had destroyed with his own hands was the family he’d once wanted most—the future that should have been his happiness.
Belated devotion is cheaper than dirt. He’d grown accustomed to trampling my dignity from his pedestal above, and now all he could do was spend the rest of his life drowning in regret.
I stepped through the doorway, pulled the heavy door shut behind me, and cut off his line of sight completely.
