The Mafia Don Killed My Groom Then Buried Me Alive Chapter 06

The Face He Doesn’t See

I’m on the ground.

Dead weight.

My head is shaved raw, scabbed and bloody.

My face is one giant purple bruise.

My mouth is packed with dried blood where my tongue used to be.

I don’t look like a person anymore.

Adrian doesn’t recognize me.

He glances down like I’m a dead rat someone dragged in from the alley.

His face twists in disgust.

His eyes are on me for maybe half a second.

Then they’re back on Selene.

He smiles.

Warm.

Proud.

“Good girl.”

“But don’t get your hands dirty next time, sweetheart.

What if you scratched yourself?

I’d lose my mind.”

“Especially this face…”

He cups her cheek.

Strokes it like she’s a diamond he can’t stop admiring.

Then, without another glance at me:

“Get rid of the body.

I don’t want it stinking up my wing.”

Two of his guards jog over, scoop me up, and haul me out through the gate.

Adrian’s eyes flick back to my window.

Nothing.

No shadow.

No movement.

Something in his face tightens.

He turns to a servant.

Cold.

“Bring lunch out here.

Now.”

Minutes later, my patio table is loaded with food.

Every plate, every dish — all my favorites.

Everything he’s been cooking for me for three years.

Selene puts a hand to her chest.

“Adrian, you had them cook for ME?

Baby, you’re the sweetest.”

Adrian glances at my window.

Then, loud:

“You worked so hard today, sweetheart.

Let me feed you.”

He picks up a fork.

Feeds her.

Bite by bite.

He’s never fed anyone in his life.

Not even her.

Selene almost passes out from joy.

Chews with little happy noises.

Her friends actually clap.

“Told you!

Adrian melts for our Selene.”

“Damn, I’m so jealous.”

“That homewrecker never had a chance.”

“Nobody could ever come between them.”

Selene glows.

Eats every bite.

Adrian, though — Adrian is drifting.

His eyes are on my window.

On my window.

Only on my window.

He’s doing all of this for me.

He wants me watching.

He wants me clawing at the glass with jealousy.

“Don Vitale — the body’s buried.”

His guards, back from the yard.

Adrian glances at my window one more time.

Still nothing.

He stands up abruptly.

“Sweetheart, come on.

Let’s go see the master suite.

If you like it, you can move in tonight.”

Selene squeals and grabs his arm.

“The master suite is closest to your bedroom!

Of course I’ll love it!”

He lets her drag him out.

But every few steps, he looks back.

Over his shoulder.

At my window.

Nothing.

No face.

No sound.

The silence eats at him.

His steps slow.

Then stop.

He jerks his arm out of Selene’s grip and turns around.

He walks back.

Faster.

Faster.

Straight into my wing.

Straight into my bedroom.

“You really don’t give a damn, do you—”

His voice dies.

The room is empty.

He tears through the wing.

Every closet.

Every corner.

Every hiding spot he made me memorize over the years.

Nothing.

He storms back into the courtyard.

His voice is a blade.

“Where is she?”

Selene blinks up at him, all wide-eyed innocent.

“Who, baby?

There was only that skank who kind of looked like me.

Nobody else in here!”
