My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 07

Mark’s face instantly went white.

Victor pressed on.

“Any chance I can join you for dinner?”

I eagerly answered, “Of course. It would be our honor, Mr. Grant.”

Mark’s lips moved as if he wanted to make an excuse.

But Lily had been waiting for a chance to display her victory in every possible direction.

“Yes, of course. It would be our honor. Mr. Grant can witness our happiness too.”

So the four of us entered an upscale steakhouse with an atmosphere so awkward it could have been bottled.

Once the food arrived, Lily sweetly ordered Mark around.

“Mark, I want shrimp. Peel it for me.”

Mark was distracted. He began peeling shrimp stiffly, but his eyes kept drifting across the table.

Lily waved her diamond ring.

“Mark treats me so well. We had these matching rings custom-made. They symbolize one lifetime, one pair…”

As she spoke, she tried to pull Mark’s hand over to show his ring.

But his left hand was bare.

“Where is your ring?”

Mark panicked.

“I took it off when I washed my hands this morning and forgot to put it back on.”

At that moment, Victor leaned forward slightly.

A necklace slipped from under his shirt collar.

At the bottom of the chain hung a ring-shaped object.

I seized the opportunity.

“Mr. Grant, that necklace is beautiful. Very distinctive.”

Victor lifted his eyes. His amused gaze brushed over Mark.

“Thank you. My partner gave it to me.”

The fork in Mark’s hand clattered onto his plate.

His whole body visibly trembled.

Lily was confused by his reaction, so she turned her firepower toward me.

“Look at Mr. Grant. Such taste, such presence. Unlike some people who are used to cheap things and probably haven’t seen anything truly good.”

She seemed desperate to belittle me. Then she put on a helpful expression.

“Mr. Grant, you’re so outstanding and still single. If you don’t mind, I have a younger sister who just came back from studying abroad. She’s beautiful and from a good family. I can introduce you.”

Victor rejected her cleanly.

“No need. I have a partner.”

Mark seemed unable to take the pressure anymore. He stood abruptly.

“I… I need to use the restroom.”

The moment he left, Victor elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin.

“Excuse me.”

Only Lily and I remained at the table.

She glared at me.

“Not bad. You even learned how to find someone powerful to back you up. Let me tell you, don’t think being close to your boss means anything. Men like him have very high standards. He would never fall for secondhand goods like you.”

Watching her lose control was almost funny.

“You’re right,” I said. “He definitely doesn’t love me.”

“But I do want to ask. How did you fall for a man like my husband?”

She answered with complete confidence.

“Love is a competition. You go after what you want. Whoever wins gets him. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being useless. You couldn’t even keep a man.”

I nodded.

“Oh. So you’re very useful. In that case, your husband must be just as useful as you.”

Lily was about to explode when the two men returned from the restroom.

Mark looked noticeably wrong.

His face was flushed, his eyes evasive. A few strands of his neatly styled hair had fallen across his forehead.

Most importantly, his lips were glossy and unnaturally swollen, as if they had been thoroughly abused.

The expensive Hermes belt at his waist was not buckled straight.

Victor followed half a step behind him, looking refreshed and calm.

My mind uncontrollably supplied several restricted images.

My stomach turned.

What had those two done in the restroom?

I did not want to know.

Truly.

Not even a little.
