My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 08
I thought my world had been completely severed from my ex-husband’s.
Then one night, he blocked me in an underground parking garage.
His hair was messy. His eyes were sunken.
His face was full of anxiety and anger.
“Emily. We need to talk.”
I instinctively stepped back and looked at him warily.
“What is there to talk about? The divorce papers are barely cold.”
“This is your fault. All of it. That perverted boss of yours. He… he took advantage of me when I was drunk after that work dinner. He brought me to his room and took a lot of… humiliating photos. Now he’s using them to threaten me. He’s forcing me to be his secret lover and show up whenever he calls. How is that different from selling myself?”
He waved his arms in agitation.
“You have to help me fix this. You’re the one who let the wolf in.”
I listened without the slightest emotional ripple.
In fact, I almost wanted to laugh.
“Mark, let’s be clear. First, we are divorced. Whether you’re innocent or not has nothing to do with me. Second, you cheated first and turned me into a joke. Now someone is willing to let Lily taste betrayal too. That’s called karma.”
“You…”
Mark choked on my words, his face shifting from red to green. His finger trembled as he pointed at me, as if he might faint from anger.
I treated the incident like a minor episode and did not think much of it.
Unexpectedly, a few days later, Lily started bombing me with calls.
“Emily. Where did you hide Mark? Put him on the phone.”
“Your husband is missing, and you’re asking his ex-wife? That’s hilarious. I don’t know, and I don’t care.”
She did not believe me and kept calling.
I blocked her.
But after less than two days of peace, an unknown local number called.
I hesitated, then answered.
On the other end was Mark’s weak voice, crackling with bad signal.
“Emily? It’s… it’s me. Yours is the only number I remember. Help me. Call the police. Victor is a pervert. He locked me up in his lake house outside the city.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Locked you up? Did he beat you? Apart from not letting you leave, has he physically harmed you? Broken your arms or legs, for example?”
“He didn’t beat me, but he took my phone. He’s restricting my freedom. And… he’s using those photos to threaten me. As a man, I have no dignity left.”
“Oh. So he didn’t hit you or curse you out. He’s just keeping you there and using a little leverage to make you obey. Mark, this sounds an awful lot like some intense role-play between the two of you. As your ex-wife, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to interfere.”
“Emily, you damn…”
I cut him off.
“Listen carefully, Mark. Your romantic debts are yours to settle. If you’re in trouble, call the police. The number is 911. You don’t need me to teach you that. Don’t call me again.”
I hung up without hesitation.
Then I texted Victor.
“Mr. Grant, please manage your person. His calls are reaching me now. I am no longer participating in whatever happens between you two.”
Victor replied:
“Don’t worry. It won’t happen again.”
