My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 09
I went to a phone carrier store and got a new number. At the same time, I submitted my resignation.
Using the resources and connections Victor had promised, I moved smoothly into a new job in another city.
Block. New number. New job. New home.
Whatever struggles Mark faced in his “beautiful new marriage” had nothing to do with me.
I was lying happily in a spa, enjoying a mineral mud mask more expensive than gold, when an argument shattered the peace.
“Emily! Get out here.”
My esthetician tried to stop her, but Lily had already stormed in.
She shoved her phone screen in front of my face.
On it was a transfer record from Mark for thirty thousand dollars, along with a coldly worded scan of divorce papers.
“He wants me to terminate the pregnancy. He said I should take the money, the house, and the car and find someone else. How dare he? This is his child.”
Lily cried so hard her makeup ran.
I slowly sat up and signaled for the esthetician to leave.
Through the green mud mask, my voice sounded muffled.
“Oh. Then maybe… he fell in love with someone else.”
“After all, that was how I was divorced too. The process is basically the same. You’ll get used to it.”
“Though this time, his breakup package for you is much more generous than what he gave me. Maybe his conscience improved.”
Lily trembled with anger.
“I’m going to confront him. That bastard.”
“Confront him? Where? Do you even know where he is?”
Lily went silent, her face growing uglier.
Of course she knew.
Mark had been missing for several days, as if he had vanished from the earth.
Just then, her phone began vibrating wildly.
A string of messages arrived.
She looked down, and her face turned deathly pale. Her lips trembled, and she nearly dropped the phone.
Curious, I glanced over.
Wow.
My former boss was ruthless.
He had sent Lily several “exercise” videos.
In the videos, Mark’s eager, fawning, utterly absorbed expression was so far from his straight-man image that the impact was nuclear.
“Ugh.”
Lily bent over and retched.
I was disgusted too and quickly looked away.
That was truly killing the heart after killing the person.
Lily collapsed to the floor, eyes empty.
“You… you knew all along, didn’t you? You knew he liked men. That’s why you divorced him so easily.”
I said nothing.
I only sighed softly, meaningfully.
The last bit of light in her eyes went out.
After that, everything ran wild.
Completely hopeless, Lily went to the hospital without hesitation and ended the pregnancy, removing the “bargaining chip” she had thought would tie Mark to her.
For revenge, she packaged those eye-burning videos and mass-sent them to every coworker and client at Mark’s company.
Mark was socially dead.
He did regain his freedom fairly quickly, but his reputation was destroyed.
With nowhere else to go, he became like a vine clinging to a tree, a hidden male canary kept out of sight.
But how long does a man’s love ever last?
A year later, at a Miami yacht party organized by my new company, I unexpectedly saw Mark again.
People around me whispered that Victor had long since grown tired of him.
Now Mark had been “shared” with several rich friends who had similar tastes, and his life was not going well.
Later, I heard his body broke down and he caught something dirty.
When Victor found out, he threw him out like garbage.
The wheel of fate kept turning.
Mark, who had lost all value, somehow crossed paths with Lily again.
He demanded that Lily return the house he had given her during the divorce, claiming the gift had been made under coercion.
Lily pointed at his nose and cursed him for pretending to be straight and tricking women into marriage.
Their argument quickly escalated into a physical fight.
In the end, one died and one was injured.
I never found out whether my useful former boss had caught anything.
But at least for me, every rotten connection had finally reached a satisfying end.
The End
